Getting Started
Who doesn’t have some story to tell? We all like to embellish an experience on occasion. Many of us are good at hyperbolic dramas that glorify our part in some adventure, whether in the woods or at work. Now, can you turn that into an eBook for profit or posterity? If there’s a will, there’s a way. Also, with some planning and a step-by-step approach you a more likely to succeed.
First, think about some subject or story you know intimately, and that is worth repeating. Next, don’t write; instead make notes in a notebook. Miscellaneous notes are a good start. The more the better. You are not writing a book. You are just jotting down ideas and memories. Later they can be ordered chronologically or logically. Of course, this could all be done on a computer, but just as well on index cards (as in the old school days of writing term papers).
If you aren’t a grammar expert, you might fashion most of your story in the form of a novel, where characters “speak” colloquially. Or you might have a friend who will help you edit your writing to clean up the fine points such as spelling and mixed metaphors. If you don’t use word processing software such as Microsoft Word, then start learning. That software is fundamental to writing once you get beyond your initial note-taking.
More to come. Could you be an author?
